JE N'OUBLIERAI JAMAIS

Je n'oublierai jamais l'amour,

jamais la guerre,

jamais les réconciliations.

Jamais ton visage,

Je ne regrette rien à la fin ;

Car tu es celle qui justifie encore mes moyens.

I WILL NEVER FORGET

I will never forget love,

never the war,

never the reconciliations.

Never your face,

nor the hells we crossed hand in hand.

Nor the mornings,

nor the days after,

nor the days before.

Nor the bitter winds,

nor the gentle springs.

I remember time spent saying nothing,

in the silence of acceptance:

that of our limitations,

our weariness,

our intransigence.

With the simple boredom of being together

in that presence that tells us everything and inhabits us always.

I remember fragile intimacies,

the promiscuities that trouble only those who cannot bear each other.

I remember all those unremarkable moments that meant nothing

other than I love you,

in a language of the deaf,

in a love that was neither blind nor mute,

but full of that emptiness that makes one happy.

I regret nothing in the end;

For you are the one who still justifies my means.
